I try to.  I’ve had a lifelong interest in skin care because you feel good, you think about good things and it influences your actions. Of course, daily actions compound and add up to months and years which in essence is your life. Skincare can save you from a lot of things and stress. Just Imagine if your skin never has to break out during a harsh weather condition because it’s constantly moisturized and taken care of so it can avert skincare problems. Cool way to go.

I’ll teach you 6 different skincare recipes for sensitive skin.

What is Sensitive skin?

Sensitive Skin is a type of skin that’s characterized by a heightened reaction to products, the weather, and other things that may cause harm to one’s skin. It’s a type of skin that needs extra and delicate attention. Sensitive skin is picky about products and not every product can be used on sensitive skin regardless of whether it works for other people or contains ingredients that are beneficial to general skin integrity. Sensitive skin can be due to genetics but it can be due to environmental factors like uncontrolled exposure to sun, smoke, irritating ingredients, and fragrances. These factors weaken the outer layer of the skin which protects against environmental stressors or damage it completely.

People with sensitive skin are advised to use more natural products that contain fewer chemicals and are gentler and cause little or no irritation. Using DIY skin care can be more cost-effective than using commercial skin care products.

Here are 6 DIY skin care recipes for sensitive skin:

  1. Honey And Oatmeal;  Honey is a natural humectant: it helps to keep one’s skin hydrated. It also has antibacterial properties which can help reduce acne and other skin issues. Combined with oatmeal, it reduces inflammation, removes dead skin cells, and soothes skin.

RECIPE: Create a natural face mask by combining 1/2 cup of plain oatmeal, 2 tablespoons of honey, and 1/4 cup of water. Apply the mixture to your face, leave it on for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse it off.

You can use this recipe as a face mask, a cleaner, a spot treatment, and a face wash(add a few drops of lavender oil or tea tree oil to do this)

2. Lavender And Olive Oil Moisturizer: Lavender has properties that can help soothe irritation and redness caused by sunburn, eczema, or psoriasis. Olive oil helps to combat sun damage by providing a natural barrier against human UV rays. It also helps to improve skin elasticity and hydration.

To use this as a moisturizer: Mix 2 tablespoons of olive oil with a few drops of lavender essential oil. Apply to face and massage into skin.

3. Green Tea And Aloe Vera Toner: This combination helps to balance the pH of the skin, which can help prevent breakouts and improve overall skin health. It can also help tighten pores and reduce the appearance of creases and furrows.

RECIPE: Steep one cup of hot water with two green tea bags for 5-10 minutes. Once steeped, remove the tea bags and let the tea cool down. Combine 1/2 cup of the cooled tea with 1/2 cup of aloe vera gel. Transfer the mixture to a clean container, such as a spray bottle. To apply, spray the toner onto your face after cleansing and then gently pat dry with a clean towel.

4. Cucumber And Yoghurt Mask: Cucumbers include natural antioxidants and vitamins A, C, and K, which aid in moisturizing and calming the skin. Yogurt has lactic acid and natural probiotics to assist in gently exfoliating dead skin cells and clearing out pores. When combined, these ingredients work together to hydrate, soothe, and diminish redness and inflammation.

Recipe:

  • Blend 1/2 of a cucumber with 1/4 cup of plain yogurt until smooth.
  • Apply the mixture evenly to your face, avoiding the eye area.
  • Let the mask sit for 10-20 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft towel.
  • Follow up with a gentle moisturizer.
  • You can store any leftover mask in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

The mask can be left on for up to 20 minutes to allow the ingredients to fully penetrate the skin and can be used once or twice a week to help maintain healthy, hydrated skin.

5. Chamomile Tea Toner:

Chamomile tea contains natural essential oils that can help to lock in moisture and prevent dryness. It can help to unclog pores and improve skin texture. Using this toner can help to brighten and even out skin tone, and it can be used as part of a daily skincare routine.

Recipe:

  • Brew one cup of chamomile tea using one tea bag.
  • Let the tea cool to room temperature.
  • Pour the cooled tea into a clean, glass container.
  • Use a cotton ball or pad to apply the toner to your face after cleansing.
  •  Allow the toner to air dry on your skin, or gently pat dry with a clean towel.
  • The toner can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.

It is recommended to infuse the toner with a small amount of rose water to enhance its hydrating and soothing properties. However, it is important to use this concoction sparingly to prevent excessive dryness. Additionally, it is advised to follow up with the application of a moisturizer to seal in moisture and safeguard the skin's protective barrier.

6. Baking Soda and Avocado Mask: Baking Soda has natural antiseptic properties that can help to fight acne-causing bacteria. Avocados are rich in potassium, which can help to soothe and soften the skin. They also contain Vitamin C, which can help to brighten and even out skin tone.  The combination of baking soda and avocado can help to soothe and calm sensitive skin, while also providing gentle exfoliation. It can help to tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

RECIPE: Mash 1/2 of an avocado in a bowl.

  • Add 1 tablespoon of baking soda to the avocado.
  • Mix the ingredients until they form a smooth paste.
  • Apply the mask to your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes.
  • Rinse off with warm water and pat dry with a clean towel.
  • Use the mask once or twice a week to help improve your skin's appearance.

You can use the mask as a DIY face scrub to gently exfoliate and remove dirt and makeup from your skin. Alternatively, it can be used as a DIY facial mask to deeply cleanse the skin and enhance skin barrier function.
